I have a friend who goes to the beauty salon once per week. And she goes there mostly to get her facial hair removed. Don’t get me wrong – I have nothing against going to the cosmetician and asking him/her to remove unwanted hair. But the truth is, we can do that at home. Of course, it will take a few minutes, but using turmeric for hair removal is effective.
Most of you are surely familiar with turmeric – that Indian spice that gives dishes their yellow color. Some call it a magical spice because of its health benefits. I will get to that later, but for now, let’s see how you can use turmeric for hair removal.
And before I get to several facemasks for removing unwanted hair, let me tell you the best thing. Unlike threading, plucking, waxing and other sometimes painful methods for removing unwanted hair, turmeric is painless. This magical spice will help you loosen unwanted facial hair without any pain. The result might not come overnight. But turmeric will gradually and permanently help with hair reduction.
Turmeric for hair removal mask No.1
I will show you several hair masks for hair removal. And they all have their benefits. For the first one, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- ½ cup of milk
- ½ cup of flour
- 2 tablespoons of turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- Stir the mixture until you get a smooth paste. If the mixture is runny, add a little more turmeric.
- Apply the paste on the area with the hair that is to be removed. Make sure to rub the paste on the area in a circular motion for 10 minutes.
- Allow the paste to dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash with warm water and enjoy the benefits. Both turmeric and salt dissolve hair by thinning them. Repeat the treatment until you fully remove the facial hair.
In the first mask, we used milk; this mask uses lemon extract. This mask will also make your face look brighter. Here is what you need:
- ½ bowl of sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 2 tablespoons of turmeric
- 2 tablespoons of lemon extract
- Boil the water. Add the sugar, and let it boil with the water until you get sticky, sugary syrup.
- Let the sugar syrup cool down, and then add turmeric and lemon extract. Stir the ingredients to get a thick paste.
- Apply the paste on the troubled area and allow it to dry. Scrub in a circular motion. After five minutes of scrubbing, rinse your face. You can also use a washcloth to remove the mask by rubbing in the opposite direction.
- Repeat three times per week.
In addition to removing unwanted hair, this mask will provide you with a cleansing effect. You’ll need the following ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric
- 1 tablespoon of flour
- 2 tablespoons of milk
- You’ll notice that the ingredients are fairly similar to the first mask. The only difference is there is no salt this time. Add the ingredients to a bowl and mix until you get thick paste.
- Apply the mask in the direction of the hair growth, and then scrub in the opposite direction.
- Scrubbing will disturb the hair growth and make the hair fall out from the roots. If you want, you can replace flour with oats.
I want to give you mask that will not only help remove unwanted hair, but also nourish your face. The ingredients are the following:
- 1 cup of chickpea flour
- ½ tablespoon of turmeric
- ½ cup of milk
- Add chickpea flour to a small mixing bowl. Add the turmeric and stir for a few seconds. Add the milk and stir until you get smooth paste.
- Apply a thin layer of the mixture on the area where you want to remove hair. Apply in the direction of hair growth. Let the mixture dry on your face for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Using a washcloth, rub the area in the opposite direction of hair growth. Remove any residue from the mask with warm water. Apply moisturizer to soothe the area.
Sometimes, the best mask is the simplest one. Milk is part of many turmeric masks. Sometimes, there are other ingredients, but if you want to keep it simple, you need just turmeric and milk. You don’t have to worry too much about measurements here. To make the paste more effective, the ratio of turmeric to milk is 3:1.
How to make it
- Spread the paste on your skin and apply in the same direction as the hair growth. Allow the mask to dry on your face for 20 minutes.
- Using a dry washcloth, scrub your skin in a circular motion to remove the mask.
- Repeat every 2 or 3 days to get best results. After using it for a few months, you’ll notice the hair will take longer to grow back.
I always want to share some tips with my readers. This time, I will try to answer some of your concerns.
Yes, your face might turn yellowish due to the turmeric. Use an apple cider vinegar toner or coconut oil to moisturize your skin after the hair removal. This will remove the turmeric stains.
Never repeat the treatment two days in a row. It is just too much for your skin.
You can also use baking soda and soap to remove the yellow turmeric stains from your skin.
Benefits of turmeric
As I said at the beginning, turmeric is a very effective home remedy. When you consume it on a daily basis, it reduces the risk of cancer, boosts brain function, reduces the risk of heart diseases, and prevents Alzheimer’s and bone diseases like arthritis.
But in terms of the skin, here are some of the benefits.
The main compound in turmeric, curcumin, is a natural anti-inflammatory compound that supports the health of your skin. Inflammation can lead to many skin problems like acne, for example.
Turmeric improves the antioxidant capacity of your body and skin, slowing the aging process and negating the harmful effect of free radicals.
Turmeric fights off age-related problems like wrinkles.
Turmeric has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, which keep your skin clean, clear, and healthy.
